luke and ashley ocf workshop

Learning Off-Camera Flash (aka:  OCF) has been something on my list of things to master for a while now.  After receiving a second Canon 600EXT flash for Christmas, I realized that NOW was the time to get going!  When I saw Luke & Ashley Photography advertising their first OCF Workshop, I immediately jumped on it!  And I am SOOOOOO glad that I did.  Obviously, there isn't any possible way to master something as big as OCF in one class, but I was so happy with all of the information I was able to obtain in just a few hours.  A few of my favorite things about the workshop were:
1.  Luke & Ashley are so down to earth and incredible HANDS ON TEACHERS!  They allowed us a variety of locations to practice and they were right there beside us as we worked through trial and error :)
2.  They let us use their different pieces of equipment (which was a TON) so that we could get a feel for all sorts of different lighting options.  Generous, right?  Yah......they are that awesome!  I mean they have like a bajillion flashes and create the most insane images!  Lucky brides!  ;)
3.  I met so many new and wonderful friends.  Honestly, its a saturated market in the photography business and it was nice to meet new photographers who love what they do and just want to help each other out.  Why compete?  We can't all shoot every single wedding and meet every brides expectations and budget.

We practiced out OCF in a chapel with uneven window light.  The left image is natural light and the right image was created by placing an OCF with a shoot through umbrella on the model's left side and by bouncing another flash off the wall to her right.  It's amazing the difference in results!  Don't you think so?

We shot the image above in a DARKKKKKKK room!  By manipulating the light and strategically placing the OCF and bouncing a second flash off the ceiling, I was able to achieve lighting that highlighted the brim of our model's hair.

Thank you Luke and Ashley for putting on this workshop.  Thank you for showing that business can be mixed with family and for being an AWESOME couple to look up to in the photography industry!  I hope that I can work with you all again!  :)
