One day I got a voicemail from an unfamiliar number. I was excited to learn that it was my college roommate’s little brother, Clark! He wanted me to photograph his wedding at the Washington D.C. LDS Temple! I was excited for many reasons but mostly because this is the place where my husband and I were married almost 10 years ago.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints (also know as the “Mormon” church) do weddings a little different than most other religions. The ceremony is private and the only things that are photographed are the couple exiting the temple, family & friend portraits and couple portraits. Depending on the distance that the couple has to travel to the temple, they might have a reception or luncheon as well. The DC Temple is about 4 hours from Virginia Beach (depending on traffic) so I got married on a Thursday and opted for reception the very next night.
There are 150 operating temples throughout the world today! If you’re interested in learning more, check out the church’s website about TEMPLES! And of course you can always ask me :)
Karlyn and Clark were a dream to work with! They met 8 years ago through a mutual friend and became long distance best friends before dating later down the road. They both served full-time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. Talk about a perfect couple—just wait until you see the chemistry they have shine through in their wedding images!
The Monday before their wedding the forecast called for 90% chance of rain and I was bummed. However, their day came and it turned out to be just overcast! They were the only wedding that day and we had the entire temple grounds to ourselves. It was so much fun! I
Thank you Karlyn & Clark for letting me be a part of your special day!
