Ryan contacted be back in January to schedule a surprise proposal for his beautiful girlfriend, Anna Holland. We crafted up a secret plan to capture him proposing at the Virginia Beach oceanfront during their weekend getaway trip to the Patriotic Festival. Can I just stop for a minute and give him a fist bump for being so prepared and excited enough to hire a photographer to capture it all? What a catch!

Yes, you read that right.....a DOUBLE SURPRISE PROPOSAL! I'll get to that in a minute, but first let me say that this has to be one of the sweetest proposals that I have ever photographed! Patrick and Rossmary are from Connecticut and were traveling down to Virginia Beach for a family vacation. Little did Rosemary know, but Patrick had hired me to document their surprise proposal! Patrick found me on Instagram on a Sunday night and we carefully crafted a perfect plan for Monday evening. In less than 24 hours we had a location, time and strategy! I dropped of a wireless microphone with instructions on how to use it to his hotel before they arrived in Virginia Beach. We shared numerous text messages and made sure that everything would go smoothly.
My husband (who is my VIDEO partner) and I captured the entire proposal in photos and video/audio without Rossmary even knowing! After proposing to Rossmary, Patrick also proposed to her daughter! CUE THE TEARS! It was so incredibly sweet. Not only did he make this day special for Rossmary, but he went out of his way to make her daughter feel loved as well. What a guy, right!??? I feel so lucky to have been able to witness this event. I am so happy for them and wish them nothing but happiness as a new family of three! :)
Patrick bought Rossmary's daughter a special doggy purse and beautiful gold ring with a pink flower on it. It was so sweet!
I am starting to think that proposals are the most adrenaline pumping and exciting things ever! When Trevor contacted me about photographing his surprise proposal to Stacey, I gladly said YES! I have to say ladies....if your man plans out a surprise proposal with lots of details and hires a photographer to document it all, he's a keeper for sure!
Trevor and I schemed through text messages and email because he lives in Washington D.C. I helped him pick a beautiful beach location and that took a lot of trust on his part. I am so grateful for clients who allow me to be a part of their special moments.
When they arrived to the beach, I was sitting in my chair acting like a tourist when they came walking up to the left of me. He went to the exact spot that we agreed upon and then Stacey started pulling him in the opposite direction. "OH NO!" I thought! I could see a little bit of panic in Trevor's eyes but I totally trusted that everything would work out perfect in the end....and it did! He got her to turn her back towards the ocean and I got up out of my chair and booked it so that I had a better view. (Thankfully you can't hear people run in sand--haha!) PICTURE THIS: A crazy lady with a camera running quickly and on-lookers laughing and giving me the thumbs up. It was hilarious!
Trevor had made Stacey a scrapbook of all of their memorable dating moments. The last page had the words "engagement" written at the top. He then got down on his knee and proposed! It was absolutely beautiful! We then did a few portraits and ring shots. Didn't he do a fabulous job picking that ring out!?
All of this from start to finish was about 20 minutes. It was such a fun thing to witness! I am thrilled for them and wish them all the happiness in the world! Enjoy a few pictures from the whole proposal and afterwards! :)
Where in the world do I even begin? These two....... gah! They are just the sweetest and most IN LOVE couple that I have ever seen. I feel so blessed to even have the opportunity to be around couples that radiate genuine LOVE! I had scheduled a regular couples session with Patrick and Dakota and planned to meet them at Sandbridge's Little Island Park.
The day before, I got a text from Patrick telling me that he was going to PROPOSE during their session!!!! Propose--yes I said PROPOSE!!! I was so giddy with excitement for two reasons:
1. I've always wanted to capture a proposal!
2. I felt so honored to be a part of such a huge moment in their lives!
Patrick and I schemed up a plan to start off the session by taking regular pictures like any other. I would direct them and have them interact in front of the camera. I told him that when I felt like we had found the perfect spot, I would stop and say "OH MY GOSH, the lighting is PERFECT HERE! Patrick could you turn towards me and put your thumb in your pocket."

After shooting in some direct sunlight, we made our way under the pier and it just seemed like the perfect place! I did several shots and then told them I needed to change my lens. I switched my Canon 85mm 1.2 L for my Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS II so that I could stand back further and let them have their moment!
After giving Patrick the cue.... "THE LIGHT LOOKS PERFECT...." it seemed as if it was an eternity before anything happened. Literally, I thought he had changed his mind. I started to panic a bit because I tend to do that sometimes (just ask my husband! haha!) I freaked out, so I asked them to come up and take a look at a few shots on the back of my camera. When Dakota looked down, I gave him the wide-eyed LOOK that pretty much said, "Are you going to do this????" He gave me the nod/smile and then they went back to their spot and that's when he started talking to her. What he said, I don't know, but their sweet interactions lead me to believe that it was PERFECT!!!!
And smiling......Seriously, how cute are they!?
And then BAM! My man Patrick got down on his knee and popped the question!!!!!! He later told me that he was so nervous and was trying to compose his thoughts when I told him "THE LIGHT WAS PERFECT." hahahahah Poor guy! I hope I didn't put too much pressure on him!
After the proposal, Dakota was all smiles!!!! And she has the most gorgeous smile, doesn't she!?
I love the pure excitement on her face! We closed up the session with some official engagement pictures.
Patrick had me rolling with laughter! When we were in a different spot and I was gushing over the perfect light, he pretended to get back down on his knee to propose all over again. We were laughing hysterically!!!!!!! I just love these two!
Thank you Dakota and Patrick for letting me witness this beautiful moment in your life. I will always remember it! I am so excited for your upcoming wedding in July! You two are just PERFECT!!!!!!
