I was so excited for Morgan and Cody's nautical wedding at The Attic at Waterman's on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront from our first email interaction. Morgan was so enthusiastic about everything and it was contagious. When I finally met her, at her BRIDAL SESSION, her bubbly personality won me over. She's gorgeous inside and out. That's my kind of bride!
August weddings at the Washington DC Temple are usually scorching hot! For that reason, I met up with Tona and Doug for a hour before they needed to be at the temple for their sealing. That way it was cooler and the light was better. We were blessed with mid 70's and a beautiful overcast sky. When there are clouds at the temple, the spires really "pop" and it creates the dreamiest light!
I have been dying to share this bridal session! Morgan and Cody were married on Saturday so now I can! This actually is Morgan's reception dress. She chose to do a bridal session in it because she really wanted a beach session and this one was much better for the high temperatures and location she chose. We had the best time getting to know one another and chatting about all things WEDDING! Morgan you are BREATHTAKING! I am so thankful you chose me to document such a special time in your life! PS: Morgan made her own bouquet and did her own makeup for this session! Amazing! Hair by: Casey Jethro
I got a message on instagram back in the early spring. The woman looked so familiar from her profile picture, but it wasn't until we were on the phone together that we were able to make the connection! Amy and I used to go to the same class at the gym. She remembered me saying I was a photographer and found me through our boot camp teacher on instagram. Thank goodness for online connections because this couple (Amy and Joe) are incredible!
Martha and Joey are the sweetest couple ever! They live all the way out in Bristol, VA. And the fun thing about Bristol is that it splits the states of Virginia and Tennessee. There is a sign that crosses State Street that shows the dividing line. How cool is that!? It was pretty much like A Walk to Remember when Landon crosses off one of Jamie's bucket list items off by standing in two places at once. WATCH THAT CLIP HERE. If only there wasn't traffic and we were really able to do that. haha!
Last night I saw post on instagram. It was by someone that I follow, but do not have a personal connection with. A simple illustration with the words, "Mental Health is as important as physical health." It struck me.
SO. MUCH. FUN! That is how I would describe my time with Kaitlin and John at their Virginia Beach Oceanfront engagement session. We laughed hysterically the entire time! Couples like this fill my heart with so much joy! What I loved even more, was having the opportunity to work alongside my husband, Justin, of Gibby Visuals. We love working together and feel like we give our clients the best experience when our photo and video services are combined!
My family and I recently went to a family reunion. We were on the road for 10 days, all over the state of Virginia. I already had a wedding scheduled at the Washington DC Temple so I made the most of it by scheduling 2 engagement sessions along the way. One was for Tona and Doug in Old Town Alexandria! This place is so adorable and we only got to explore a few streets before it started to rain :( I had a blast getting to know them and getting all the details about their DC Temple wedding next month! Isn't Tona's hair to die for? So pretty!
Ryan contacted be back in January to schedule a surprise proposal for his beautiful girlfriend, Anna Holland. We crafted up a secret plan to capture him proposing at the Virginia Beach oceanfront during their weekend getaway trip to the Patriotic Festival. Can I just stop for a minute and give him a fist bump for being so prepared and excited enough to hire a photographer to capture it all? What a catch!
I was so honored to document Sonya and Ryan's beautiful wedding. They celebrated with their closest friends and family members at the Avalon Church of Christ in Virginia Beach, VA. I felt right at home because I photographed Sonya's sister's wedding back in 2013 (View Part I and Part II). It was so wonderful to be back with their family again! I can't say enough about both of their families and how welcome they made me feel. Their family came together to create a beautiful coral, gray and teal "happily ever after" themed reception!
Doing LDS Baptism Photos is one of my favorite types of photoshoots. I love to see these children get all dressed up and be excited for such a big moment in their lives. My own daughter is getting baptized this year and I am so excited about it! Daxton's mom is a good friend of mine and we had a great time walking about the beach together. Enjoy a few photos from his session!
I love taking pictures of large families. Everyone needs current family pictures! As families continue to grow, it gets harder and harder to make this happen. The Brimhall's had all of their children in town over the holiday break and decided to schedule a session with me. We met up in Sandbridge and had the beach all to ourselves. I had such a fun time capturing the entire group and each one of their individual units. They were playful and we had a great time! Here are a few pictures from their session :)
I don't even know where to begin. My dear photo pal Christina Barnum booked a Punta Cana destination wedding in the Dominican Republic ....because she is incredible like that. I casually joked one day that I wanted to to be her 2nd shooter and after multiple conversations it actually happened! The trip has come and gone and I still can't believe it. So before I say anything else in this blog, I want to thank her publicly again for giving me such an incredible opportunity! We had a blast exploring this new country and enjoying some much need momma time at Dreams Punta Cana. We spent the majority of the time floating in the pool and laughing.
I first met Sonya back in 2013 when I photographed her older sister's wedding. Flash forward 4 years later and she emailed me about photographing her own wedding! I loved working with their family so of course I was excited when she contacted me. Ryan met Sonya online. Her dating profile came across his phone screen first. He “liked” her and then his dating profile came across my phone screen and she "liked" him back. This was totally out of the norm for Sonya, but from his profile, he seemed like someone she wanted to get to know. So she took a chance and messaged him first. Their connection came naturally and they talked for hours on end for the next nine days. After that nine days, they decided to meet up at the mall. They walked around, played with a puppy at the pet store and got lunch. When they were about to say goodbye, he finally built up the courage to take her hand in his. Soon after he met her parents and everyone fell in love with this polite country boy from a small town in Kansas. From then on, they were inseparable. Almost a year later, Ryan proposed!
I spent a BEAUTIFUL spring day at the Washington DC Temple with Emily, Cristian and all of their closest family and friends. The temple was very busy on this day with weddings. We quickly did all of their family portraits near the front temple doors to allow extra time for Emily and Crisitian's couple's portraits. They will traveled one hour to Frederick, MD for their same day wedding reception. They had an intimate and small DIY reception at the The Tea Room at Gambrill State Park.
Eden is the sweetest high school senior! Not only is she beautiful but she's also very ambitious! She runs a highly successful LulaRoe clothing business with her mom. She rocked a gorgeous blue Carly dress for one of her outfits during her session. Eden loves to be outdoors and specifically requested FLOWERS, greenery and lots of sunshine! By looking at the first picture, it's easy to see we nailed it! I'm so excited for everything coming up her future. I know she is going to do so much and have a blast at college!
Kim and Stuart's Washington D.C. LDS Temple post was so full of gorgeousness that I knew their reception would need its own space on my blog. Temple Wedding Fact: There are 155+ operating temples for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints throughout the world. Some regions have many within a short distance, while other areas require members to travel long distances to attend. The state of Virginia does not have a temple, so when members of the church are looking to get married (or sealed as they call it) they travel to The Washington D.C Temple in Kensington, MD. It is 3.5-4 hour drive from Virginia Beach depending on traffic. Once it even took me 8 hours to get home because I-95 was a parking lot--yikes!
I was so excited for this wedding! Not only was it at my favorite place, The Washington D.C. Temple, but I'm so crazy about this fun couple! I knew when I met Kim and Stuart that they were my kind of people! They were so fun at their engagement session and I knew their wedding would be just as awesome as they are! They were sealed as husband and wife on a Wednesday. We had the entire temple grounds to ourselves.
It was so fun working with this sweet family again! Are these little guys models, or what? Last year, I photographed them in the country and you can see it HERE. Enjoy a few pictures from their session :)
Brittany and Jared met while working at the same elementary school with young children. A friendship at work, soon turned to text messages, long phone calls and even the occasional get together. They bonded over coffee, religion and board games! After a year-long friendship, the next summer Jared had plans to go on a vacation. During his trip, it hit him, HE MISSED BRITTANY! Distance definitely made the heart grow fonder in their situation. When he returned home, he immediately visited her with the desire to date her.
I've said it once and I'll say it again.....there is nothing better than a girl with beauty and brains! McKayla traveled from Utah to tour some colleges here on the East Coast. While here, she scheduled a senior photography session.
I first met Kim when I took her Nursing School Graduation photos. I instantly fell in love with her! Not only is she beautiful but she has the sweetest personality. She's is definitely a brains AND beauty kind of gal! When I met up with Kim and Stuart at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, their bond was undeniable.
I adore Kim!!!! I love to meet intelligent, driven and successful young women! We met up in Smithfield, VA at Windsor Castle Park to celebrate her nursing school graduation with a photography session. We had the best light and the most beautiful weather.
Krystal and Paul....where do I even start with these two!? They are amazing and oh so funny! I met up with them at the beautiful Norfolk Botanical Gardens. After hearing how Paul, proposed, it makes total sense why they wanted to do their engagement session here.
I squirmed in my seat waiting for my time to speak. We were participating in a mastermind group and I was surrounded by incredible women who spoke so eloquently about their businesses and dreams. I was nervous and my palms were sweating. Then it was my turn. I casually spit out a few generic things about feeling like my website and online presence didn’t represent who I was. And then the bomb hit when someone called me out in the very best kind of way. She said, “Emily, you don’t know who you are because you don’t know what you want. What do you want!?” I sat there for a moment just trying to process what she had said and I realized that I wasn’t being open. I knew exactly who I was and what I wanted, but I was afraid. So I fumbled on my words for a few more seconds and then burst into tears……
Leslie and Payton were sealed for eternity on a chilly December day at the Washington DC Temple. When I first met them at their Richmond engagement session, I instantly fell in love with them. They are such a sweet couple and have so much love for one another. Their family welcomed me with open arms and I immediately felt so at home with them.
Megan and Ira were sealed at the Washington DC LDS Temple this past Fall. The day was sunny and surprisingly mild! The temple grounds were filled with the autumn colored leaves that I love so much! There was so much excitement in the air as they celebrated with their family and friends.
Heather and Zach were the absolute sweetest! They found me online and asked me if I would photograph their Washington DC Temple Elopement. They traveled from New York, on a Tuesday, to be married for eternity on a beautiful October day!
