Engagement sessions are my absolute favorite! I have such a blast getting to know my couples during this time. It's a chance to get comfortable with each other and gives us the opportunity to talk about the wedding day.
They met at James Madison University at a fraternity/sorority mixer. Kaitlin and John were introduced through mutual friends. They were inseparable the whole night! The following day they went up to the mountains together and the rest was history! They dated a few more years throughout college. John graduated from JMU a year earlier than Kaitlin. He began his career in another city while she finished school. Long distance means they would alternate visiting each other every weekend. Their four hour roundtrip drives and accompanying visits made their relationship that much stronger!
I first met Diana and Rylan at her BROTHER'S WEDDING in August of 2017. Diana's mother had an unfortunate fall during the beginning of family pictures and had to be rushed off to the hospital to get stitches on the bridge of her nose. We were all traumatized in the moment but after everything it formed a friendship that I am grateful for.
Did you know that bridal sessions don't just have to have the bride? That's right, it's totally acceptable to get dressed up with your groom before the big day! In fact, it's very common in LDS weddings because often times weddings are scheduled in the middle of the day and don't offer ideal lighting situations.
Heidi and Patrick were sealed in the Washington DC Temple on the most beautiful sunny day! I couldn't believe how blue the sky was and how the perfectly placed clouds made it look like it was painted! The temple grounds were filled with exotic flowers and it was the perfect backdrop for such a sweet couple.
I had the best time with Joyce Anne and Mike at their First Landing State Park Engagement Session! I love engagement sessions because I get to know the couple and talk all about how they fell in love and what they like to do together.
You won't want to miss hilarious moments and find out how Mike intercepted an arranged greek marriage. hahah!
Brittany and Jared were a dream to work with. From the moment I sat down with them, at their consultation, I wanted them to book me so badly. More than love, they have such a sweet friendship at the foundation of their relationship. I had the chance to get to know them better at their Engagement Session and also through questionnaires that I sent out before the big day. Here is what they had to say!
Daniel met Jessica, at their church’s singles ward, six long years ago. She was successfully finishing up the last two years of her dental hygiene degree in Richmond. She caught many of the single guys’ attention, including Daniel, for many reasons. In the words of Daniel, “She was committed to her faith, kind to everyone, fiercely loyal to her friends and family, and absolutely gorgeous!”
Now that Martha and Joey are married, I can share her gorgeous Byrd Park Fall bridal session! (Be sure to check out their Gaie Lea Wedding HERE). Choosing a few images for this post was extremely difficult because she looked so stunning! I may or may not have delivered 300 final images. Yowza!
There I was....photographing a wedding at the Washington DC Temple and waiting for the couple to exit.... The sweetest blonde girl came up to me and told me she was engaged and asked for a business card. We had a great time chatting and she went on to tell me that she was my previous bride's roommate!
We've been waiting all year for Martha and Joey's fall wedding at the beautiful Gaie Lea in Staunton, VA. I say "we" because I was photographing their wedding while my husband, Justin of Gibby Visuals, was filming it. We LOVE working together! It's like an all-day date ;) As parents of two young children its rare that we get to spend the entire day together! We will take it any way we can get it!
When Abby's mother first reached out to me about photographing her daughter's wedding we immediately had so many connections. I have known Abby's grandparents for years and two of my past brides (Shelby and Kim) referred them to me. I loved seeing all the friendly faces at the Washington DC Temple and at the Chesapeake Noah's Event Venue!
I was so excited for Morgan and Cody's nautical wedding at The Attic at Waterman's on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront from our first email interaction. Morgan was so enthusiastic about everything and it was contagious. When I finally met her, at her BRIDAL SESSION, her bubbly personality won me over. She's gorgeous inside and out. That's my kind of bride!
August weddings at the Washington DC Temple are usually scorching hot! For that reason, I met up with Tona and Doug for a hour before they needed to be at the temple for their sealing. That way it was cooler and the light was better. We were blessed with mid 70's and a beautiful overcast sky. When there are clouds at the temple, the spires really "pop" and it creates the dreamiest light!
I have been dying to share this bridal session! Morgan and Cody were married on Saturday so now I can! This actually is Morgan's reception dress. She chose to do a bridal session in it because she really wanted a beach session and this one was much better for the high temperatures and location she chose. We had the best time getting to know one another and chatting about all things WEDDING! Morgan you are BREATHTAKING! I am so thankful you chose me to document such a special time in your life! PS: Morgan made her own bouquet and did her own makeup for this session! Amazing! Hair by: Casey Jethro
I got a message on instagram back in the early spring. The woman looked so familiar from her profile picture, but it wasn't until we were on the phone together that we were able to make the connection! Amy and I used to go to the same class at the gym. She remembered me saying I was a photographer and found me through our boot camp teacher on instagram. Thank goodness for online connections because this couple (Amy and Joe) are incredible!
Martha and Joey are the sweetest couple ever! They live all the way out in Bristol, VA. And the fun thing about Bristol is that it splits the states of Virginia and Tennessee. There is a sign that crosses State Street that shows the dividing line. How cool is that!? It was pretty much like A Walk to Remember when Landon crosses off one of Jamie's bucket list items off by standing in two places at once. WATCH THAT CLIP HERE. If only there wasn't traffic and we were really able to do that. haha!
Last night I saw post on instagram. It was by someone that I follow, but do not have a personal connection with. A simple illustration with the words, "Mental Health is as important as physical health." It struck me.
SO. MUCH. FUN! That is how I would describe my time with Kaitlin and John at their Virginia Beach Oceanfront engagement session. We laughed hysterically the entire time! Couples like this fill my heart with so much joy! What I loved even more, was having the opportunity to work alongside my husband, Justin, of Gibby Visuals. We love working together and feel like we give our clients the best experience when our photo and video services are combined!
My family and I recently went to a family reunion. We were on the road for 10 days, all over the state of Virginia. I already had a wedding scheduled at the Washington DC Temple so I made the most of it by scheduling 2 engagement sessions along the way. One was for Tona and Doug in Old Town Alexandria! This place is so adorable and we only got to explore a few streets before it started to rain :( I had a blast getting to know them and getting all the details about their DC Temple wedding next month! Isn't Tona's hair to die for? So pretty!
Ryan contacted be back in January to schedule a surprise proposal for his beautiful girlfriend, Anna Holland. We crafted up a secret plan to capture him proposing at the Virginia Beach oceanfront during their weekend getaway trip to the Patriotic Festival. Can I just stop for a minute and give him a fist bump for being so prepared and excited enough to hire a photographer to capture it all? What a catch!
I was so honored to document Sonya and Ryan's beautiful wedding. They celebrated with their closest friends and family members at the Avalon Church of Christ in Virginia Beach, VA. I felt right at home because I photographed Sonya's sister's wedding back in 2013 (View Part I and Part II). It was so wonderful to be back with their family again! I can't say enough about both of their families and how welcome they made me feel. Their family came together to create a beautiful coral, gray and teal "happily ever after" themed reception!
Doing LDS Baptism Photos is one of my favorite types of photoshoots. I love to see these children get all dressed up and be excited for such a big moment in their lives. My own daughter is getting baptized this year and I am so excited about it! Daxton's mom is a good friend of mine and we had a great time walking about the beach together. Enjoy a few photos from his session!
I love taking pictures of large families. Everyone needs current family pictures! As families continue to grow, it gets harder and harder to make this happen. The Brimhall's had all of their children in town over the holiday break and decided to schedule a session with me. We met up in Sandbridge and had the beach all to ourselves. I had such a fun time capturing the entire group and each one of their individual units. They were playful and we had a great time! Here are a few pictures from their session :)
I don't even know where to begin. My dear photo pal Christina Barnum booked a Punta Cana destination wedding in the Dominican Republic ....because she is incredible like that. I casually joked one day that I wanted to to be her 2nd shooter and after multiple conversations it actually happened! The trip has come and gone and I still can't believe it. So before I say anything else in this blog, I want to thank her publicly again for giving me such an incredible opportunity! We had a blast exploring this new country and enjoying some much need momma time at Dreams Punta Cana. We spent the majority of the time floating in the pool and laughing.
I first met Sonya back in 2013 when I photographed her older sister's wedding. Flash forward 4 years later and she emailed me about photographing her own wedding! I loved working with their family so of course I was excited when she contacted me.
I spent a BEAUTIFUL spring day at the Washington DC Temple with Emily, Cristian and all of their closest family and friends. The temple was very busy on this day with weddings. We quickly did all of their family portraits near the front temple doors to allow extra time for Emily and Crisitian's couple's portraits. They will traveled one hour to Frederick, MD for their same day wedding reception. They had an intimate and small DIY reception at the The Tea Room at Gambrill State Park.
